Keeping children content: a few tips

1. Always have breakfast planned ahead and prepared each morning.
A fed belly is a happy belly.

2. Include them in your work.
Allow them to towel dry the dishes, wipe down the appliances, prepare lunch etc.

3. Send them outdoors.
Let them get dirty, let them run, and let them get their Vitamin D.

4. Have less stuff.
Try to only keep toys that can withstand more than one generation, such as wooden toys.

5. Be predictable
Let your yes be yes, and your no be no.

6. Be unpredictable
Do something spontaneous every now and then. Break the routine and go to a movie; pack a picnic lunch and head outdoors; surprise them with an ice cream party for breakfast, etc.

7. Be affectionate with your husband in front of them.
I shouldn't even have to explain the feeling of security that comes along with this.

What are some tips you have in raising content children? I'd love for you to share them in the comment box below :)

  1. What a great post, Jenn!! Those are all perfect and great ideas :-) if I had content children I'd share some pointers...haha...totally kidding. I think you covered it though. With five kids I like to have them practice different character traits with eachother... mostly serving eachother. I think this brings a lot of contentment- when they start thinking that they deserve everything and expect to be served they get pretty ugly (attitudes)... but when they are focused on serving others they tend to be content!
